2017 Central Region Meeting
Michigan State University - East Lansing, MI
This year’s Central Region conference will be held at the Kellogg Center on the beautiful campus of Michigan State University. Most students will be on summer break, so attendees will have access to the campus, which includes 12-acres of gardens. The agenda will include tours of four campus gardens, a lecture series involving four MSU professor/educators, and a Saturday evening plant auction. The auction promises to be a special event because several Midwest conifer propagators have generously agreed to provide unique offerings not available commercially. For more conference information, see the Central Region’s October 2016 Coniferite.
The conference keynote speaker is Adrian Bloom, ACS member and author of many books, including Gardening with Conifers, which he is currently revising. During the conference, Adrian will be available to sign/personalize your copy of two of his books and pose for photos.
To support this book signing, the publishers have agreed to a special pricing for attendees, allowing the Central Region to sell the revised edition of Gardening with Conifers for $20.00 (Retail $29.95). This edition features the author’s revised directory of 600 conifers with input from ACS members from each of the four regions. He also includes a section entitled “The Mauergarten Story”, which chronicles the author’s design of the garden at one of Germany’s premier nurseries.
In addition, we will offer Adrian’s Bloom’s Best Perennials and Grasses published in 2010, for $23.00 (Retail $34.95). In this book, Adrian summarizes his years of experience as a nurseryman and gardener with 250 reliable perennial and grass selections. Detailed information is offered on growth, care and design tips for use in a garden of all sizes. He shares his trademark “river of plants” design style that features the beauty of a plant throughout its life.
Book purchases are not part of the conference registration fee, and there will be a limit of one of each title per registrant. All books must be picked up at the conference. If you are interested in purchasing one or both of Adrian’s books, please include it with your event registration.
Due to limited capacity of the conference facilities, meeting attendance will be limited to 240 individuals, so please register early. Don’t forget that your Kellogg Center hotel registration must be made separately. Hotel room reservations can be made now either on-line or by phone. For on-line reservations go to www.kelloggcenter.com and for telephone reservations, call 800-875-5090. In both cases refer to the Group Code: 1707AMERIC
